Johan Murillo
First Team Western Conference
American Division
This is Johan's third year in a row making the Western Conference All-Star team. He made the second team in his Freshman and Sophomore years and has finally been noticed by enough coaches to make it to the first team. Johan is the quintessential midfielder. He is an incredible defender, but has great speed and skill on the offensive side of the field as well. Johan had 6 goals and 5 assists this season. Perhaps his greatest feat, though, was leading the team in a loss. In the District Quarterfinals, Johan helped keep the incredibly potent Palm Harbor University Hurricanes to only 2 goals. This is to date the least amount of goals that Palm Harbor has allowed in the playoffs.
Johan is the first junior to be named captain in at least the last seven years (since the head coach has been involved with the team). Without him leading the connection between the defense and the offense all year, there is no way that Alonso would have made it to its first Regional Quarterfinals since 2008. We only get one more year with Johan. We are not looking forward to seeing him go, but are thrilled to at least have him at the helm for one final season. Congratulations, Johan!
