Alonso could not repeat its great effort against Palm Harbor just 12 days earlier. Palm Harbor was ready for the super defensive approach and the game was all but over by the first water break. Alonso regrouped in the second half holding PHU to only one goal from the field and one penalty kick goal. You can decide for yourself whether or not the penalty was warranted.
Palm Harbor is one of the best teams in Florida, ranked 11th at the time of this game and 2nd in District 7A. Alonso went with an extremely defensive approach in this game and kept the game close, losing 2-0 in the end. Alonso had a great chance to tie the game at 1-1 late in the first half, but it was not to be. Still, the Ravens played well enough against PHU and the whole season to make it to their first Regionals since 2008!
A number of factors played into the final score, but the bottom line is that the Ravens did not come ready to play against Newsome, a top level team. This was the worst 80 minutes the Ravens played all year and they deserved every bit of this 6-0 drubbing. This game certainly helped the Ravens learn some valuable lessons that they used in their District Semi-Final against Palm Harbor the following week.
The Ravens solidified a winning season with this tough 4-2 win over the Terriers. Alonso got off to a 3-0 start in the first twenty minutes and then had to hold on for dear life as the Terriers made a valiant comeback. After Hillsborough cut the score to 3-2 early in the second half, the Ravens buckled down on defense and then Jalen Brown netted the insurance goal with about five minutes remaining to secure the 4-2 victory.
In the first full game without our all-star goalkeeper, Reid Holt, the Ravens started slow against the King Lions. On King's senior night, their seniors were able to celebrate a 1-0 halftime lead. Our boys took that as an insult and took matters into their own hands in the second half. The sequence of banger goals scored by the Ravens is perhaps the best half of goals in the last ten years at Alonso. This one was for Reid!
Freedom came to Alonso undefeated and ranked 58th in the state. Alonso went up 1-0 in the first half and had the opportunity to increase that lead, but couldn't do so. Freedom made a frantic comeback and scored the game winning goal with only five minutes left in the game. This was a tough loss for the Ravens, for sure, but we are happy for Freedom on their undefeated season and look forward to meeting them again next year. They fought very hard and earned the victory on this night.
Alonso put together a great game to complete an undefeated December with zero goals against the entire month.
Alonso hosted Chamberlain on this cold night. While the Alonso girls posted an incredible 18-0 win over the Storm, Chamberlain's boys team put up quite the fight. Our boys came out with the victory, but kudos to Chamberlain for making it very competitive.
Alonso gets a big win over a very tough Gaither squad. This marks the fourth consecutive shutout win for the Ravens.
Alonso wins its third straight with this hard fought win over Leto.
Alonso was clicking as the boys put up 8 goals with some great 1-2 passing.
Alonso notches its first regular season win over a very good Robinson team. The Ravens kept up the pressure all night long and missed some golden opportunities to put the game out of reach. Robinson barely missed cutting the score in half midway through the second half.
A great 1-1 tie against the always powerful Plant Panthers.
A tough 1-0 loss to Sickles in this great rivalry between neighboring schools.
Alonso traveled to Calvary Christian High School for the third incredibly exciting game in as many years. CCHS notched its first goal off of a sideline call that we are still debating (1/2 of us say it was in, 1/2 of us say it was out) and then a botched play in the back (early season issues that should get corrected). Their second goal was a rocket by CCHS's star forward, Drew Mullins (headed to Marquette next year), that no one could have saved. Just like in 2022, Alonso fought back and cut the lead in half with about 12 minutes remaining. Just two minutes later, Alonso had its best chance to tie it up, but shot it high and wide. All in all, it was another great match-up with Calvary Christian and we look forward to continuing this rivalry again next season.
Clearwater came to Alonso for both teams' opening regular season games. Alonso had a couple of great opportunties to notch go-ahead goals, but the soccer Gods were not on their side on this particular evening. Here are two crossbars that kept Alonso from securing the victory. We thank Clearwater High School for traveling to Alonso and hope that perhaps we can play them at their home next year.
An exciting preseason clash between friendly rivals Alonso and Robinson in the Final of the Inaugural Chambelain Preseason Classic. The game ended appropriately with a 2-2 tie. Great effort by both squads and a big thank you to Chamberlain for hosting this great tournament.
